Long-Term Disability Benefit Increase Effective July 1, 2026

The Building Service 32BJ Benefit Funds are pleased to announce an increase to the Long-Term Disability (LTD) benefit to all eligible members enrolled in the Metropolitan health plan.

Monthly benefit $250 to $375 per month
Application deadline Within 60 months (5 years)

Increased Monthly Benefit

Effective July 1, 2026, the monthly LTD benefit will increase from $250 per month to $375 per month. This increase was approved to provide additional financial support to eligible participants who are unable to work due to a qualifying long-term disability.

Participants who are currently receiving LTD benefits will automatically receive the increased monthly benefit beginning July 1, 2026. No action is required by current LTD recipients.

Please note: The increase will apply prospectively beginning July 1, 2026 and will not include retroactive payments for periods before that date.

New Application Deadline

Effective July 1, 2026, participants must submit an application for LTD benefits within 60 months (5 years) of their last day worked in Covered Employment as a result of their total disability.

Participants who stopped working in Covered Employment more than 60 months ago and have not yet applied for LTD benefits may be affected by this change.

If you believe you may be eligible for LTD benefits, you are encouraged to contact Member Services as soon as possible to discuss your eligibility and application options before the new rules take effect.
